Big Totals and First Milestones at the XGYM Strength Trial

The XGYM Strength Trial Novice Powerlifting Competition at XGYM Castle Hill saw Jonathan Santos record the meet’s highest total, while Martin Tran, Kayla Dean, and Kaveen Nathan delivered some of the day’s most memorable performances.

Jonathan Santos claimed first place in the Men’s 105 kg class with the heaviest total of the competition, finishing on 637.5 kg (240 kg Squat / 142.5 kg Bench / 255 kg Deadlift). He successfully worked through all nine attempts and finished the day with a strong 255 kg deadlift.

In the Men’s 83 kg class, Martin Tran put together one of the most complete performances of the meet, winning his class with a 585 kg total (200 kg Squat / 135 kg Bench / 250 kg Deadlift). Martin closed the day with the biggest deadlift of his flight at 250 kg, drawing plenty of attention from the crowd.

Kayla Dean delivered the strongest performance in the Women’s Raw Division, taking the 84 kg class with a 417.5 kg total (155 kg Squat / 80 kg Bench / 182.5 kg Deadlift). Her final deadlift of 182.5 kg was one of the biggest lifts of the women’s session and capped off a dominant day.

One of the biggest moments of the meet came from Kaveen Nathan in the Men’s 105 kg class. Kaveen closed the entire competition by pulling the heaviest deadlift of the day at 280 kg, bringing his total to 610 kg (195 kg Squat / 135 kg Bench / 280 kg Deadlift), and bringing the crowd to its feet for the final lift of the meet.

Meets like the XGYM Strength Trial Novice Powerlifting Competition are an important first step for new powerlifters, giving them the opportunity to gain platform experience, test their training under competition conditions, and build confidence in the sport. XGYM once again provided a welcoming environment for athletes to take that step, with plenty of strong performances and personal milestones achieved throughout the day. With the foundation now set, it will be exciting to see how these powerlifters continue to develop and where their next competition takes them.
