At the SPF Windy City Spring Classic in Thornton, Travis McKinney took the overall with a 2359 lb total.
The day started a little behind schedule, but once the first squat flight got moving, the room settled in and stayed engaged as the weights climbed.
McKinney was the main focus from early on. Lifting single-ply, he finished with a 922 lb squat, 731 lb bench, and 706 lb deadlift for a big 2359 lb total. His squat flight was where the tone changed. As the bar moved into the 900+ lb range, people started gathering closer to the platform, and each attempt got louder than the last. It came up during the day that this was his first single-ply meet, which made how comfortable he looked under those weights stand out.
Jacob Klemp’s squat series was one of the more memorable moments. He totaled 1424 lb (487 lb squat, 351 lb bench, 586 lb deadlift) for first. After missing a squat, he took a big jump anyway and came back to make it.
Chris Moynihan had one of the most consistent performances of the meet. He went 502 lb squat, 316 lb bench, and 571 lb deadlift for a 1389 lb total to win his division. He finished with a clean 571 lb pull.
Gabriel Crosby, lifting in the teen division at 16, totaled 1044 lb (402 lb squat, 226 lb bench, 416 lb deadlift) to win his class. He kept to himself between attempts, then stepped up and hit his lifts. People nearby kept bringing up how much he’s grown and how different he looks on the platform now.
The Windy City Spring Classic, run under the SPF, ended up hinging on a few key lifters and a handful of attempts that had the whole room watching. The Windy City Spring Classic moved quickly after the slow start and delivered a handful of lifts that had everyone paying attention. Once the heavier attempts started loading, the room stayed locked in. Strong day across the board.
